Over the years Iv'e had the pleasure and pain of working on various projects of all shapes and sizes from classic cars to stock cars to fishing boats, over the years images have been lost but not the memories, so rather than keep future memories locked in the vast vault in my head they are going on here, hope you enjoy

VW Beetle Boxter, Works Moving On

Work has been moving on and in the right direction, the air vent now sits into the panel to make the finish neat and tidy.

Slightly better view of the rear part of the sill

One of the big issues was how well had the rear suspension mounts had been tied in, the far corner is nothing more that filler and fiber glass, to the right it is un-welded.

Off side is the same,

Pretty rough, not the kind of work you want to see.

Mounts now tied back in and the left had side of this mount is welded to the upper cross member of the Porsche.

Decent access to the bolts. also better for prep and paint.

Attention towards the inner part of the A post, wanted to make sure that all was good, it wasn't, so the patch work was ripped out.

New panel fabricated and tied into both the Porsche's bulk head and into the Beetle's A post.

I'm hoping to have a few more photo's to share before Xmas, all being well I should be concentrating on the front of the Beetle.

Beetle Boxter, Strip Away The Old

Work started, stripped down and removed some of the patchwork to see what was what, A post and B post on the near side not tied in properly and box section sill is pretty much in the wrong place.
B post is 25 mm too far in both sides so first things first its time to make a set of sills and tie the posts back in and create some strength.

First strip back large amount of filler

The panel has only been tacked in every three inches or so, not an issue as I want to take the panel out and repair whats under.

Where the Porsche has been stripped away not has been cleaned up or tied in so this is a must

B post is only hanging on, a pretty bodge repair and no support.

B post is really non existent, the replacement sill is badly out of line so the upper part will be removed, the B post will be tied back into the Boxters metalwork.

Outer sill made and B post in correct position. The running board now fits to the shape of the side sills.

Inner sill fitted, view from the out side, door now has something to fit against.

Another view from the out side

Inside looking tidy

Every thing is fully welded, inner sections primed with weld through primer.

The sill does taper from front to back, main reason is where the box section was welded in by the previous crew it picked up on two key points front and back so rather than disturb it the new sill is welded to it, the result is megga strong and gives good side protection.

VW Beetle Boxter

Well it's been a while since Iv'e posted a project on here but at long last Iv'e got a project to show and here it is.
VW Beetle with a difference, the body has been grafted to a Porsche Boxter floor pan and drive train so is it a dubster, bugster, herbster?
Well not sure what you call it but it belongs to a fella called Mark Howard and his plan is to go all out and fit the 3.2 ltr, should make it a little more usable.

Mark has had a little bad luck with the beetle in the form of being let down with the crew who originally agreed to undertake the work.
His disappointment came with the amount of poor workmanship, there isn't much that won't need to be re-worked and it will be here to see.
